A Community Of Care
Lend aHelping Paw
Thank you for taking the first step in becoming a valuable member of the team at our animal haven in the southwest! As a non-profit, we thrive on the compassion of volunteers like you to fulfill our mission of providing humane care and shelter for all animals in need. We cultivate a welcoming and uplifting volunteer community where every individual is embraced. We offer diverse opportunities for groups, businesses, and individuals to contribute in ways that resonate with their unique passions and talents.
Group Volunteering
Looking to volunteer with team members from your business or organization? We offer unique opportunities for businesses and groups to support animals and people in our community, including shelter assistance and event support!
Community Events
Be part of the action at our community events—whether it’s an adoption fair, fundraiser, or special pop-up! Volunteers help with setup and decorating, assist with event activities, engage with community members, sell merchandise or raffle tickets, and pitch in for post-event cleanup. These events are a great way to represent the SPCA in the community and make a real impact in a fun, social atmosphere.
Media & Advertising
Calling all creatives! Join our media and advertising team to help showcase our animals and events. Whether you’re behind the camera, writing adoption bios, creating social media posts, or helping monitor engagement, your skills can help connect our animals with their future families. We welcome your ideas and creative energy to help tell our story and spread the word.
Transportation
Sometimes, we just need a helping hand on the road. Volunteers in this category assist with picking up or dropping off supplies, running quick errands, or even hauling recycling. If you’ve got a vehicle and a little time to spare, this flexible opportunity could be a great fit for you!
Yard Work/Maintenance
If you’ve got a green thumb, a trade skill, or just a knack for fixing things, we’d love to have you on call! From basic yard work like weeding or mowing, to small repairs and maintenance projects around the shelter, this behind-the-scenes help is a huge support to our daily operations.
Canine Enrichment
Spend hands-on time with our animals and help improve their quality of life! Engaging with our dogs can be as simple as spending time one-on-one to boost their self-confidence, or taking our residents for walks/runs around the property. For volunteers with a little more experience, there are opportunities to help us socialize, rehabilitate and even work on basic command training! No matter your comfort level, animal enrichment is rewarding work that directly benefits the dogs waiting for their forever homes.
Feline Enrichment
Spend hands-on time with our animals and help improve their quality of life! Feline enrichment is a fun and easy way to get involved with us as a volunteer no matter your experience or age. Cuddle our senior residents or help our kittens burn off some energy with some toys! By offering socialization and enrichment activities, you’ll play a key role in their care. It’s rewarding work that directly benefits the cats waiting for their forever homes!
Used Bookstore
Do you love books and community connections? Our volunteer-run SPCA Used Bookstore in the heart of downtown Swift Current, is a fun way to give back. Shifts are just two hours, with availability from Monday through Saturday. Volunteers help sort and stock books, assist customers, and handle cash sales. Training is provided—no experience needed!
Foster
This volunteer position requires a separate application to be submitted. Fosters are screened and approved to care for animals from intake to adoption.
Fostering a pet is a rewarding experience, for both you and the animal you welcome into your home! Often, an animal that comes to the shelter will have a hard time adjusting while they await adoption, and fostering allows us to make space at the shelter for incoming pets in need.
As a foster, you choose the type of animal to take in, while the length of the stay can vary. We can discuss times and placements that work best for you and our pets, and we’ll support the animal over the duration of its stay with you, including all associated costs.

By living with and observing the animal, you help us gain a better understanding of it and the adoptive person or family it might best be placed with.
We are also always seeking ASK (Animal Safekeeping) fosters to place pets in temporary care while their owners find safer living situations. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in learning more about this program.
